  • I was watching the video on Non-systems Modalities Traction, Biofeedback, IPC. If I heard correctly, Will said that IPC was indicated in the population of arterial insufficiency. However, I was under the thought that it would be contraindicated for the population of arterial insufficiency, and indicated for those with venous insufficiency. Can you clarify this for me? Thanks!

Response by Will Crane: Intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) is a modality that is often used to increase systemic circulation and decrease edema. It is also used to assist in healing wounds, reducing lymphedema, reducing orthostatic hypotension and preventing thrombophlebitis.

IPC assists with the arterio-venous pressure gradient, assisting blood as it flows down and back to the core. This pressure increases microcirculation in patients with arterial insufficiency and could potentially be used to improve vascularity.
