  • Is there a particular procedure to palpate a tendon of a muscle? For example, supraspinatus can be palpated by placing the involved UE behind the back in full IR.

Muscle tendons are best palpated when they are contracting against applied resistance. Typically, to palpate a muscle tendon at its insertion point, the examiner exerts a resistive force in a direction opposite to the muscle’s line of pull e.g. To isolate and palpate the biceps brachii tendon, an examiner applies resistance in the direction of elbow extension while the patient tries to flex the elbow.
