  • What should a PT do if the long term functional goal is achieved in short period? Eg. 8 weeks long goal is achieved in 4 weeks? Should the PT be discharged or need to set a new goal?

Restoration of function is often an indication for discharge. Discharge from physical therapy is recommended when the anticipated goals or expected outcomes have been achieved or the patient is no longer benefitting from PT. Two processes are used for terminating PT services; discharge and discontinuation.
