A multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) is a clinical trial (i.e. clinical investigation or research study) conducted at more than one clinical research center such as a medical center or clinic as opposed to a single center RCT which is typically carried out in a single location.
The benefits of multicenter trials include a larger number of participants, different geographic locations, the possibility of inclusion of a wider range of population groups and the ability to compare results among centers, all of which increase the generalizability of the study.
